This production passes no judgment on the characters or the events depicted, but seeks to tell the story as it transpired, hopefully sharing new and exciting insights with the audience.

Beginning when David was a young man, we are led from his conquest of Goliath to his conquest of Bathsheba. We encounter the ghost of Samuel and the Witch of Endor, and revel with Bathsheba’s husband Uriah in the palace. We grieve when Saul dies, and celebrate when David is crowned king.

“Chosen” runs the gamut of human emotions, from the “West Side Story”-like love of David and Bathsheba to the jealous hatred of Saul for David; from the false friendship of Samuel to his ultimate betrayal beyond the grave of Saul, who dies with the words of Samuel’s ghost ringing in his ears; from the innocent shepherd David who slew Goliath, to his transformation into the murderous King, who steals Bathsheba from her husband Uriah, then has him killed so he alone can possess her.

“Chosen” is a ground-breaking work in theater, and is destined to take its place alongside other great works of passion beloved to audiences around the world. Songs like “Come to Me”, “Last Night”, “Chosen”, and “Wings Like a Dove” are sure to become standards.
